|12/11/2003 Redding Pilot (CT): Adler, France have a Renaissance Ceremony|
|Chris Adler, daughter of Jean Adler and the late Alan Adler of Long Ridge Road, and Eric France, son of Deanna France of Bundy Ave, Endwell, N.Y. and the late Richard France of Death Valley Road, Johnson City, N.Y., wed on Sept. 6, 2003 in a Renaissance ceremony at their home in Hilton, N.Y.
The Rev. Richard Comegys performed the ceremony, taken from Queen Elizabeth I's Book of Common Prayer. The bride and groom were married with the bride's parents' 50-year-old wedding bands.
A day of Renaissance dancing, rapier, archery, and sword fighting occurred during the afternoon. The festivities were followed by a full Elizabethan feast prepared by the bride and groom's friends, Tom Douglas and Lynn Spitz of Rochester, N.Y. and highlighted by a whole pig prepared based on a 1615 recipe, roasted onsite on a spit by the bride and groom's friend, Phil Anderson of Rochester.
The bride's mother, Jean Adler, and friend, Holly Zyara of Bridgeport, baked the wedding cake, a spice cake based on a 1655 recipe, in the form of a large castle, complete with edible embattlements and medieval figurines.
The bride wore a gold brocade gown that she hand-made in the style of a period Turkish coat, trimmed in gold braid and hand-pearled by her friend Michele Stone of Irondequoit, N.Y., over a white chemise, gold silk skirt, and gold chalwar pants, with pointed-toe slippers and a gold hat and veil.
The groom wore an Elizabethan doublet of blue brocade, also made by the bride and Ms. Stone, with tie-on sleeves and trimmed with taupe braid, over a hand-made linen shirt with period blackwork embroidery, blue trews, and thigh-high black boots decorated with fleur-de-lys.
The matron of honor was Pam Anderson of Rochester. The bride was given in marriage by her mother, Jean Adler. The best man was Bill Richards of Redondo Beach, C.A.
Ms. Adler-France is a 1984 graduate of Joel Barlow High School, and received a bachelor degree in English in 1988 and another in communications in 1989 from Western Connecticut State University. She is a manuscript editor for Thomson-West, a legal information publishing firm, in Rochester. She was a reporter for The Redding Pilot from 1985 to 1991, and served as its managing editor from 1991 to 1993.
Mr. France is a 1986 graduate of Vestal Central Senior High School, and received a bachelor degree in Computer Engineering at Clarkson University in 1990. He is a software engineer for Vanteon, an engineering company, in Pittsford, NY.
The couple honeymooned in the Catskills, then in Jamestown / Williamsburg, VA. They live in Hilton.
